Tips on how to use this exercise at home and at school.
Early maths concepts
In this exercise, the child associates concepts with ordinal numbers. They actively use the concepts as instructed.
Why is this exercise important?
So far, the child has dealt with numbers, but it is also important for them to know the order of numbers. The name representing these relations like before, after, just before, just before, just after, just after the first, etc., was already practised in exercise 113. In this way, children make connections between number ideas and number relationships that are challenging for language comprehension.
Who is this exercise suitable for?
Mainly for children in preschool or primary school as an early activity. Some children solve the task intuitively and naturally, and some need to go through the task step by step, purposefully. Part of pupils may find this task difficult.
Methodological recommendations
Either read aloud the instructions, play them from the app or let the child read them by themselves.
In the settings, you can choose the length of the row. It adjusts the level of difficulty. The pictures are loaded from left to right, so the first picture is always on the left. If the child fails, you have to check if the relational concepts (before, after, just before, just after, just after the first, and so on) are understood. Check if they mastered the numerical sequences and understand the numbers - see previous exercises in this section.
Tips for similar activities outside the app
Sort everyday objects: cars, dolls, children, family members, pictures, etc. Let the child determine who or what is first, last, in front, in the middle, and so on.
